issue culture racks are used in laboratories to grow plant and other tissues in a controlled environment with artificial illumination and humidity. They are often used in agricultural research labs and can be used to develop new and hybrid plant varieties.

- Lighting: Fluorescent tubes, incandescent lamps, and UV germicidal lights
- Timers: Digital timers that can be set for 0–24 hours
- Control panel: May include a main switch, load/main lamps, on/off switches for each tube, and an electronic choke for each light fitting
